Mitigation
Prevent GHG Discharge
Limit gas release from soils
Options
…by protecting natural soils from compaction-elevating structures, limiting stockpiling, reducing impervious surface footprints, and/or restricting the movement of heavy machinery.
…by preserving soil biology with the elimination of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides and/or using mulch on exposed soil.
…by limiting soil disturbance with perennials instead of annuals and/or limiting grading.
…by eliminating the drainage of organic soils and/or specifying trees and plants grown in nurseries without peat substrates.
Case Study
Floating Bridge is one fo three bridges that are a part of Guangming OCT Trail, a 15-mile greenway a 10-minute train ride from the city. Except for construction activities around footings, the elevated bridges leave the soil below undisturbed. Additionally, the trail partially follows an existing brick path, reducing new areas of compaction.
